There are certain challenges people face everyday. May it be a problem from work, school, friends, and even in family. These are inevitable things that could happen any time of the day.
Never compare the problems you encounter, to what other people have to go through. Keep in mind that there are no small nor big problems. And remember, not everyone is made with the same caliber as you.
Never judge other people. You'll never know what battle they are going through. Some of them can be smiling and laughing, but deeply breaking. Not because you see them happy, means they truly are. Sometimes, people get too sad to cry; and too tired to even explain.
It only takes a second to smile at strangers, don't hesitate. It costs 0 pesos to act nice and be kind, don't think twice. Maybe you're the "reassuring smile" or the "gentle tap on the back" they're waiting for, would you just let it pass? The world is getting darker and darker. Amidst the brightest rays the sun could offer, everyone seems to be slowly eaten up by darkness. Stand out. Be the light someone could've been waiting for.
Yes, there are certain challenges people face everyday. It's not just about work, school, friends, and family. Sometimes, the hardest challenge you can encounter is within yourself. And it all might be inevitable, but you can always choose to overcome or not.

WHAT IS HUMSS?
Humss strand for humanities and Social Sciences. It is one of the strands offered to senior high students. This strands is for learners who aim to take ip journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science related courses in college. Why we choose the Humss strand, as an Humss student, I've personally heard of such other comments like what are you going to do in Humss? Become a politician? The assumption that every humss will end up a politician is like assuming that every student who takes up a course in STEM is going to medical school. This mentally is limiting because there is a world oc opportunities waiting for students, regardless of their course, after graduation. - Amiel Sazon
HUMANITIES
Humanities and Social Science also known as HUMSS is one of the strand in K-12 program under the academic strand. Students who have potentials in reading, writing, and speaking skills are the one who aim to take up this strand and also those students who wants to improve this kind of skills. As well as those students who wants to take up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college.
But some people underestimated the HUMSS strand and state that it is the easiest strand because it does not tackle more about in Mathematics. But think of it, even though HUMSS students doesn’t focus on numbers instead they are focusing in practicing on how to deal with a lots of people they will going to serve in the near future.

THE HUMANITY IN HUMSS
“Sus, HUMSS ka lang pala eh!”
The first time I’ve heard this, I didn’t know what or how to react since I was still in Junior High School so I still don’t have enough background or knowledge about HUMSS that time. The second, third, fourth, or maybe the thousandth time I’ve heard about it, I really don’t get it why people underestimate the students who take the HUMSS strand. There is so much more than learning about the people taking up Humanities and Social Sciences.
HUMSS stands for Humanities and Social Sciences. It is one of the strands to choose from when you reach Senior High School. This strand is for learners who aim to take up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college.
The HUMSS strand revolves around improving a student’s reading, writing, and speaking skills because if you haven’t noticed yet, people who choose this strand are aspiring to become members of the society who will be dealing with a lot of people. I, personally, as a HUMSS student, do encounter these kinds of activities which really do help us enhance our skills in communication and writing.
As quoted above, we HUMSS students doesn’t deserve to be treated less compared to other strands who are good in math, or being told as some students who will not make enough living in the future since they said HUMSS students are not good in numbers. They don’t know that students under this strand has more opportunity in their career in the near future.
Now, if you’re thinking choosing the HUMSS strand is probably the easiest way to survive Senior High School, allow me to explain why you’re wrong. As stated above, the strand focuses on Language and Speech, which means two things: [a] yes, you won’t be dealing with way too many numbers; but [b] in turn, you will be dealing with tons of hand-outs and readings on various subjects. Each strand in Senior High School is just as challenging as you think. No strand is known for the best or number one since all, yes ALL strands are the best. Wherever strand you are in, just remember that you already have a role in our society.
Like with any other strands, HUMSS strand will only seem difficult if you take it up and if the reason why you took it up is that because you were forced to. Pursuing your wanted career should be filled with passion because that’s where you’ll get your motivation in finishing what you’ve started. - Justyne Pangan
WE ARE HUMSS
The Humanities is the state of being humane. It is a stories of lives and everyone has one. Humanities promotes history, literature and understanding or dealing to human traditions, cultures, values and even those issues we have. HUMSS or Humanities and Social Sciences is a strand under the K-12 program here in the Philippines. Being part of humanities is not as easy as they think it is. A lot of times we felt deprived because of those people who thinks we’re just too little to match their standards it seems like we can’t do what they can do, just like what they’ve said humss are just humss. Well I can say hey were all wrong.
We are more than that. Humanities inspires us to develop our imagination through literature and setting skills for a broad range of professional fields. We are the future leaders from this nation and we’re training to be the good one as we can be for the better world. We are more than what you think we are. - Aira Nesus
HUMSS ALL THE WAY
Humanities and Social Sciences or HUMSS is the academic strand under K-12 where you can see many versatile students. The strand has specialized subjects that are very interesting. It can broaden and deepen your knowledge and thoughts. There are many reasons why HUMSS is one the best strand.
In HUMSS, writing essays is definitely a requirement to pass the particular subject and to have a good grade. It can benefit you every time you write a bunch of essays; it improves your critical thinking skills and grammar. It also molds your writing skills. Memorizing many terms is also a challenging part of being a HUMSS student. Memorizing the names, dates and meanings may be difficult for you but at the end learning and understanding them is the best part of the game. You can also travel back time because of reading. Reading has the power to widen your imagination and you will also have an idea on what is happening to your surroundings. It is advised for you to have an unending reading of books. Bit by bit, you will appreciate the importance of reading of articles, journals, newspapers, magazines and other kinds of reading materials that can give knowledge to you. Researching is ineluctable, this subject helps you to answer those questions in your mind and it is also a way to help the society’s problems. It may seem tiring but it is just a stepping stone for us and to be prepared for more research papers in the future. HUMSS students also know already the current problems and truth in the society. Like for example in the subject in political science, this subject requires the students to be updated or familiar with the current issues that happening in the government and society.
Humanities and Social Sciences is not just a piece of cake but if you will love this strand and willing to learn more, it would be easy for you to conquer your fears. You can apply those lessons that you have learned in real life. HUMSS students have the power to influence their fellow students (I am not saying that other strands cannot influence other people, of course they can influence too) we should stop belittling other strand because all of us have different abilities and talents, abilities that will serves as a key to change the world and to have a brighter future soon. - Sam Danielle Tatoy
THE EASIEST STRAND OF ALL
“Humss is for weak minded people who don’t want to take mathematics as their major”. “Humss is the easiest strand”. People said that nowadays and you can hear it especially if you’re in senior high school. They keep underestimating the people who wants to take Humss strand and that kind of people who keep underestimate this strand is completely absurd. People who take the Humss strand always hear that discrimination every day including in social media.
Humss strand or Humanities and social sciences is a strand in Senior High school. that the High school and Universities offered to the senior high students who wants to take up Journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social sciences – related courses in college. If your dream to be a lawyer, teacher, journalist, psychologist, author and to be a president in your country or in other words to be a public servant someday Humss is the strand that you will choose. All of the famous senators in our country is the product of humss such as Miriam Defensor Santiago a well known senator who pass many laws in the senate and even Rodrigo Duterte the current president is the product of Humss as well. All of our leaders in government is the product of Humss. That’s why it’s a shame to the people who discriminate the Humss strand that they call “The easiest strand of all”.
Choosing the Humss strand is not easy at all maybe you can say that this strand easy because you’re not in the same position of Humss student. But if you think deeper Humss strand is not for weak minded people it is for the people who wants to pursue their career in the future. And that people has a passion that’s why they choose the Humss strand not because it is the easy but they want to pursue their dreams in life. - King Joshua Dipad
UNDER THE HUMSS STRAND
The HUMSS Strand or Humanities and Social Sciences is under the Academic Track of the newly implemented K-12 Curriculum of the Department of Education. This strand is mainly designed for students who would like to study about life and other things beyond their own meaning. In other words, this strand is for people who's ready to change and is prepared for change in the world. HUMSS, are for those students who would like to take Journalism, Mass Communications, and Political Science as their College course.
Humanities and Social Sciences, as in their name, requires students to speak alot and talk to many people. Socializing and communicating is mainly one of the HUMSS students' skills and this strand also helps them improve their own abilities to speak. Students who take this track is looking forward to becoming the future psychologists, writers, lawyers, social workers and many more.
Studying under HUMSS strand means 'less' math and less numbers in terms of their subjects but that does not mean, it's way easier than the other strands. Humanities and Social Sciences requires students to be able to compose a proper paper, report or an essay in their many subjects. Part of the curriculum includes introduction to world religions, Philippine and world literature, political and community development specialization subjects, and more. - Junea Pinca
